Vikings Aim to Move Up in 1966 Season
Vikings coach Norm Van Brocklin says 1966 must be the year Minnesota sheds its rookie label and proves it can beat top teams. Key issues include upgrading the defense led by Rip Hawkins, filling middle linebacker spots, rush on the passer, and health of running back Tommy Mason. Fran Tarkenton remains the quarterback, with a strong line and receiving around him, while the club contends with changes after a 7-7 finish in 1965.
