suit seeks Nixon donor names in federal case
Common Cause and John W. Gardner filed a federal class action to compel disclosure of donors and amounts behind an estimated 10 million dollars in concealed contributions to Nixon campaigns. The suit, assigned to Judge Joseph Waddy, targets Nixon's national campaign apparatus and four top committees. Gardner notes bipartisan reactions and possible delays from the Justice Department. The action argues that the old law allowed concealment prior to April 7 1972 when the Federal Election Campaign Act took effect.
