FTC asked to probe beer price fixing
Vermont officials urged the Federal Trade Commission to investigate alleged beer price fixing by state distributors. Environmental Secretary Martin Johnson said discrepancies surfaced after beer prices for a six pack rose 15 to 20 cents in response to Vermont's bottle ban. Attorney General Kimberley Cheney said her office is reviewing the matter. The report ties price hikes to a nickel deposit requirement and Gov. Salmon's charge that bottling interests attempted to undermine the ban.
