Protestant youths repulsed in attack on police station

In East Belfast a mob of Protestant youths attacked Willowfield police station on Woodstock road. Police fired two shots to disperse the attackers, who used bottles and stones and blocked reinforcements with hijacked buses. An army source said one UDA inner council member was arrested amid a broader flare of violence in Belfast and Enniskillen.

Prisoners end uprising at Trenton State Hospital

Sixteen inmates transferred from state prisons to the Trenton State Hospital ended a five hour disturbance after negotiating with Robert L. Clifford the commissioner. The inmates demanded to speak with the press and no hostages were taken though three guards were lightly injured. Police ringed the building as inmates used a telephone to reach families and reform leaders.

Miss America hopefuls arrive in Atlantic City for pageant

Fifty Miss America contestants arrived in Atlantic City for the 1973 pageant. They endured rehearsals interviews and photos as they prepare for preliminaries Wednesday night. Miss Maine 19 year old Stootz from Friendship said the excitement is overwhelming and plans to teach after college.
