Rockingham tax plan outlined at Bennington Rotary meet

Town Manager Edward Ki. Lamb, a Rotarian, described the Rockingham plan to revise property taxes to fund education and preserve open land. The plan, tested in 26 towns, classifies real property by use and shifts costs to a graduated system based on land use and owner income, aiming to curb speculation and ease tax burdens for elderly and working poor. State statutes would need changes before adoption.

Unemployment in New England Rises in July

The UPI report notes that nonagricultural employment in New England fell by more than 52,000 from June to July due to summer shutdowns. Despite the drop, total jobs reached 4,543,200 for July, up 45,200 from July 1971, according to the U S Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Miss Karen Martin Weds Mark Daigneault In Bennington Church

Miss Karen Marie Martin daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul J Martin of Middle Pownal Road and Mr and Mrs Clayton Daigneault of Crescent Boulevard were married Friday night at St Francis de Sales Church. Rev John T Hamilton officiated. The bride wore organza with Alencon lace and a full length veil. A reception followed at Mt Anthony Country Club with 125 guests. The couple will reside at the bride's home while both pursue college plans. Guests came from Rutland Pittsford West Rutland and several other towns.

Winslow blames mobile home owners for zoning violations

Winslow says 99 percent of Bennington residents comply with zoning rules while claiming mobile home owners largely ignore stipulations. He notes less than five percent of mobile home owners with permits fully comply and urges a full time zoning administrator as selectmen debate the post. Winslow plans to testify Tuesday night at 7 16 at the town office on South Street.
