Increased Residential Use and Lower Costs in Electric Power
The Electric Council of New England reports 1966 per house electricity use rose to 3953 kWh from 1930 levels of 471, while average price fell from 7.0 to 2.9 cents per kWh. Heating homes accounts for much growth as over 51,000 residences are heated electrically, with schools, churches, stores and plants also expanding. A $1.5 billion buildout from 1966 to 1973 funds centralized plants and high voltage transmission to lower costs across the six-state region.
