Rufus Gilbert, Dorset weather observer, reports 22 years of records from October to October. He notes a third dry year with 35.80 inches this year, a dampest year in 1949 at 53.32 inches, and a 36 day dry stretch in 1947 linked to forest fires in Dorset Hollow and Mother Myrick.

North Bennington Village Trustees announce extra patrols for Halloween due to extreme dry weather. Police will arrest any youngsters seen starting fires and return them to parents for discipline. Leaves and trash burning are banned until rain breaks the dry spell.

Mrs McGarvin Third Oldest At CDA Session

Hoosick Falls resident Mae McGarvin 58 year charter member of Hoosick Falls Court attended the Catholic Daughters of America 60th birthday in Washington and was third oldest in seniority among attendees. She received an invitation to Gloversville’s 60th anniversary next year where two 59 year members led the list. More than 1600 registered from across the country with 1258 delegates in uniform for a special communion at the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary followed by luncheons.
