Benefits of commodity loans for the farmer

WYNANTSKILL NY Farmers can use ASCS commodity loans as a marketing tool while harvest wraps up. George W. Kyer of the Rensselaer County ASCS says loans help interim income even when current prices exceed loan rates, with crops like wheat corn and oats eligible. He notes ASCS won’t dictate marketing but loans offer options alongside forward contracting hedging partial sales and other strategies. Producers should contact the county ASCS office at 138 Main Avenue Wynantskill NY 283-4910.
