Decathlon Champion Bill Toomey Dismisses Tarzan Hype
Mexico City dispatch reports decathlon winner Bill Toomey, 29, of La Puente California, rejecting the label world’s greatest living athlete. He says he is an all around athlete, not a jungle icon, and plans to keep feet on ground, perhaps pursue TV sports commentary. He credits technique and the 400 meters for lifting his score and notes he may quit teaching to find postgold work. He belongs to the Southern California Striders and emphasizes running for fun.
