Five or Nine Vermont Regions Proposed by Planning Council
Montpelier outlines a map redraw for Vermont’s Governor's Planning Council to study regional administration. A 144 page report, funded by the Urban Renewal Administration, proposes five or nine regional districts with centers in Burlington, St. Johnsbury, Montpelier Barre, Springfield, and Rutland, and notes departments may require other regional schemes. The plan weighs major trade areas and cites possible state police and watershed based divisions, aiming to preserve local control while expanding regional governance.
