Vermont Wildlife Surges as Rare Animals Rebound Statewide
Vermont wildlife officials report unprecedented rebounds for species once near extinction. Moose numbers exceed 50, deer and beaver populations rise after postwar growth, aided by forests, strict game laws, and professional fish and game work. Other species like otter fox mink weasel and fisher also show gains amid broader ecological recovery.

Sarelas warned against repeat of wing affair
Town Manager Louis C. Sarelas was warned there must be no repeat of the wing affair and that any over $1,000 requires board approval. Chairman Richard B. Leake III disclosed talks with Caterpillar Tractor Co about a new $8,500 wing and trade in of the old town grader, with Sarelas insisting no deal was made. The board voted 4-1 to accept the wing purchase while Sheridan opposed, and approved multiple Willow Park projects and free downtown Christmas parking, among other measures.

Kennedy to seek re election as state Republican chairman
Vermont GOP chairman Walter Kennedy announced plans to run for another term likely backed by Gov. Richard Snelling as the state party committee meets next month. Kennedy, a former House speaker and 1974 gubernatorial candidate, ended weeks of speculation with the candidacy. Snelling aides said the governor urged the announcement soon. In Democratic circles, county caucuses suggested a major reshaping of the party committee, with up to half the members possibly replaced. Washington County chose Scott Skinner as chairman over Peter Watts, while Chittenden County saw Francis Murray upset by Bennett Greene. Windsor County chair Barbara Goldman was easily re elected amid a failed bid to unseat her. The rest of the items list local activities and a rescue squad coin card pickup program.

PSB hearing on CVPS rate request spans power funds debate
PSB members debated whether proposed rate increases include construction funds for new facilities and whether ratepayers deserve a return on risk capital. Moore urged passage of a fuel adjustment clause for excess power profits and promoted more hydro sites while Rushford’s questions were ruled out. The session drew a thin crowd, amid World Series competition, with a ruling deadline of December 20 and a bond requirement in case the request is denied.
