Davis opposed the moratorium and a full troop withdrawal, while Hoff urged rapid U.S. withdrawal. In Burlington and Bennington crowds heard calls to end the war, with campus and community events across the state and a student expelled for not saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Reversal Sought in 1968 Extortion Conviction
Burlington attorney John Harrington seeks Vermont Supreme Court review of a 1968 extortion conviction. He argues the jury could not find intent to extort or malice and notes a March 1968 letter did not accuse adultery, but proposed a divorce settlement. He also contends the trial court erred by reopening the state’s case after it had rested. Chittenden County prosecutors defend the verdict.
