Tax survey shows Rensselaer County near bottom in state
County Executive William J. Murphy released a Citizens Public Expenditure Survey placing Rensselaer County 51st of 57 counties with a per capita tax of 59.45 dollars. The figure trails the state low of 50.66 but far below the high 226.75, and Murphy notes the burden remains heavy despite relative ranking. In a separate ruling, the Rensselaer District Attorney said magazines criticized as smut by an anti pornography campaign are not obscene offenses under state law after review of the materials.
