New England merger urged for milk marketing orders
The USDA proposes amending and merging the Boston regional and Connecticut federal milk marketing orders into a single New England order. The plan follows a public hearing in Auburn Massachusetts, requested by eight cooperatives representing over 80 percent of producers in the two markets. The merger would standardize pricing and regulation, reduce intermarket competition, and align with a national shift toward fewer broader orders. Comments are invited through October 28.
