George A. Sleeman, Supt of Southwest Vermont Schools, told the Bennington Rotary Club the district’s reorganization is working smoothly and he would repeat the plan. Mt Anthony Union High principal Clarance Pelkie defended hazing as school pride and announced a public discussion on October 25 at MAUHS during National Education Week.

McGovern vows ethics code for aides at White House

George McGovern criticized the Nixon administration as corrupt while touring Seattle and other West Coast cities. He pledged an ethics code to disclose White House aide conversations with private interests and urged cutting defense spending amid unemployment in Washington.

Funeral services held for James A. McKee in Old Bennington

The funeral for James A. McKee was conducted at OM First Congregational Church with Rev. Arvel M. Sterve and Rev. Thomas Street officiating. Attendees included Anthony Lodge 13 Masons, Bennington County Farm Bureau, church deacons, and local residents. Interment followed at Park Lawn Cemetery with remarks by Dr. Steece, county farm agent for twenty years.

No fault insurance idea urged for state level

Prof Robert Keeton of Harvard told a Vermont group that no fault auto insurance should be enacted at the state level. He said Congress would adopt national legislation if states fail, and noted the plan’s origin spurring state adoptions.

Governors spar over Merriman new federal post in New England

Gouvernors Davis and Curtis clashed over Russell Merriman’s suitability for the New England Regional Commission co chair role. Davis urged Merriman’s background in economic development, while Curtis demanded a broader background check before Senate confirmation. Kings Return from Hawaii and West Coast Trip

West Coast King couple Mr and Mrs Stanley King return to 123 Coolidge Ave after a racation to Hawaii and the West coast. They flew via San Francisco to visit Miss Rita Garant director at Sonoma State College and former local teacher. In Honolulu they saw Master Sgt Richard Garant on duty at Hickam AFB. Mrs Garant is the former Ann Dailey of Bennington. The couple have three sons and four daughters.

Supt Sleeman to speak on reorganization plan

Supt George A. Sleeman will discuss his reorganization plan for the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union at the Bennington County Human Resource Council meeting on Tuesday Oct 17. James L Quimet 75 of St Albans former Vermon ilegisature member and Knights of Columbus leader dies after months illness in St Albans Hospital. He was past grand knight of St Albans Council 297 and held multiple K of C roles. He served as overseer of the poor and retired president of Century Arms Inc. He was a St Albans city representative to the state General Assembly in the 1940s. Born Jan 27 1897 in New York City he is survived by his wife Gertrude Shea several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass 2 15 pm today at St Marys Church St Albans interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
