Pedestrian dies after Route 7 collision in Pownal

A 74 year old Williams College alumnus, Bulkeley Van Schaack of West Hartford, was struck on Route 7 while crossing and died at Putnam Memorial Hospital. The driver, Metavio Dorie of Canton, remained at the scene as investigators reviewed the accident and funeral arrangements were planned.

Ohio church boiler explosion kills five in Sunday School

In Marietta Ohio a boiler explosion during a First Baptist Church Sunday School session killed teacher Michael Murphy and four students aged 14 to 15. GM probes faults in 1966 69 Chevrolets

DETROIT UPI General Motors confirmed it submitted government results on possible faulty engine mounts and rusting frames in 1966 69 Chevrolets after NHTSA notified GM of complaints. The spokesman said number of affected vehicles could not be determined. The mounts could cause throttle sticking or fuel line breakage if the engine shifts, risking loss of braking power.
