Bennington Listers eye tax on home pools
Bennington Vermont. Francis J. Hogan chairman of the Bennington Board of Listers said the listers plan to tax home swimming pools. He said other communities impose pool taxes and motor pools are already taxable. The Vermont Tax Department advised pools and snow mobiles are personal property tax targets. Trailers designed for living quarters and campers attached to trucks may be taxed as personal property if registered. Heavy equipment like drilling rigs and power shovels on trucks can be taxed if not included in vehicle tax. Hogan warned owners to provide proof or face taxation. He noted Bennington College will send officials to discuss assessing college properties and possible changes to state law exemptions. The listers thanked village zoning inspector A Sidney Edson for his careful work.
