North Bennington highway plan redraws streets and homes

A highway project would close access to Lake Paran and McCarthy Acres by routing a road past the First National Bank area and near Depot Street. Depot Street would move south with Main Street widened, affecting many Main Street homes. The plan would relocate a spur line, end Bank Street beyond the Fred Russell house, and seemingly leave the old North Bennington Railroad Station in view as the new road passes by. Local residents criticized the plan, with remarks about the railroad station and Depot Street relocation drawing strong reactions.
