Arlington Faces Zoning Hurdle For Berwal Road Firehouse

Arlington residents packed town hall to back a new firehouse on the donated Berwal Road site in West Arlington. ZBA delayed a variance pending efforts to enlarge the parcel to one acre and conduct percolation tests. The project, costing 10 000 to 15 000 dollars, relies on volunteer labor and funds from bingo profits, a continuing fund drive, and a 70 000 dollar Farmers Home Administration loan. Local support cited reduced response times and insurance rate benefits, while concerns included septic feasibility, flood risk, and site size for essential facilities.
