Pickets Arrested Outside Madison Square Garden Over Pay
Four off duty police pickets were arrested during a mass Madison Square Garden protest demanding immediate payment of a deferred 6 percent raise and a schedule change. Two were suspended without pay as a result. Mayor Beame called the union leader’s warning of a strike a veiled threat and said he would not negotiate at gunpoint.
