Factions press to keep Winhall police chief Daniels

In Winhall factions pressed Tuesday to reinstate Police Chief Wayne Daniels whose probationary six month contract was terminated. A petition for a Special Town Meeting to elect Daniels drew about 25 residents. Selectmen will decide on the petition with attorney guidance since police officers are appointed, not elected. Daniels, appointed last March to organize the department, received a 30 day dismissal notice after a two month extension amid concerns over department organization and reports. Selectmen advertise for a replacement while noting unrelated town issues raised during meetings. Real estate transfers for September are listed by the Town Clerk with several properties changing hands. Morning clerk hours are 8 to 10, and Saturdays 9 to 12 until Nov 1.
