Bennington College Visited by New England Guidance Counselors
John L. Handy Jr directs 12 guidance counselors from New England to Bennington College for an experiential visit. They attended an evening conference, met faculty, audited classes, and discussed nonresident term and lack of required courses with students and administrators. Local educators from Bennington High and Bennington Catholic High joined, while others missed due to a Union School District meeting. The counselors observed the college’s free form curriculum, self discovery focus, and the role of NRT in career exploration. They praised small class sizes and student independence, noting debates over workload and syllabus absence. The mood suggested a campus of casual dress and self sufficiency, with hopes Bennington can help students discover their grand passions.
