Civilians killed as crossfire erupts near Saigon fight
In the Saigon area heavy fighting between South Vietnamese troops and Communist forces along Highway 1 northeast of Saigon killed at least six civilians and wounded 28 as hundreds of vehicles clogged the road. Military reports also described a herd stampede by water buffalo into a ranger base and the crash of an F111 fighter bomber on its first combat mission over North Vietnam with two crewmen missing.

Botulism epidemic kills 5000 ducks in Nevada area
In Toulon Humboldt Marsh near Lovelock Nevada Botulism has killed about 5000 ducks over three weeks. A Fish and Game spokesman says half of the local duck population may be dead, and migrating ducks could contract the disease. Hunters are cautioned not to eat ducks from the area as hunting season nears. The outbreak, called limp neck and linked to Type A botulism, can cause neck muscle paralysis leading to drowning.

Senate dusts off Vietnam policy resolution to date

The House backed anti hijacking legislation granting the President power to suspend air service with nations aiding hijackers. FBI to Probe Profiteering in U S Soviet Wheat Deal
Acting FBI Director L Patrick Gray pledged the bureau will investigate thoroughly charges that large grain dealers profited from the U S Soviet wheat agreement. The FBI was assigned to the grain sales case by President Nixon. Gray spoke at the 1972 UPI Editors and Publishers Conference in Washington.
