Connecticut River plan touted as exciting and viable
Gov Philip H Hoff praises a new Connecticut River Valley recreation plan as unique, balancing development with conservation. It envisions an 82 mile canoe trail, a 300 mile hiking route, valley tourways, and a two state park system including Moore and Comerford reservoirs. It calls for federal gateways and state cooperation, while opposing overdevelopment and pollution. It also notes public hearings as key, and promotes a counter to Corps dam planning. Copies of New England Heritage available for $1. Boston Globe reports Nixon recruiting 20 scientists, including Teller, Groves, and Strauss, for a Nixon adviser panel.
