Montpelier VT UPI Senator George D Aiken questions Justice Abe Fortas nomination as chief justice calling it a political move by President Johnson. He would not vote for cloture after three days and warns of a rush to fill offices not yet vacant, noting past Senate delays at Eisenhower Kennedy transitions.
U.S. Senator Winston Prouty of Vermont explains his vote against cloture on the Fortas filibuster, citing concerns over Fortas's ties to American University and paid lecture work. He declines to state whether Fortas should resign, noting he may be giving the matter consideration.

Safety director Philip C. Wallwork compared loose hair to a ball of fuzz and suggested helmets for motorcyclists as a precedent.
