Conference Committee works on bill that will cut taxes
Washington reports the House and Senate tax bills move to a confidential Conference Committee. The tax cuts total more than 15.4 billion dollars for 1971 to 1973 in the House plan and over 27 billion in the Senate plan. Personal exemptions differ 750 in the House and 800 in the Senate for 1972 onward, with 675 for 1971. A Senate provision would allow earmarking one dollar of taxes for party campaign expenses, potentially giving both major parties about 20.4 million for 1972. Republicans warn Nixon veto possible. Democrats argue it supports his economy program and reelection chances.
