Albany reports a surge of new legislators when the 1966 New York Legislature convenes. Republican Plan A expanded the Senate from 58 to 65 and the Assembly from 150 to 165, with retirements and realigned districts driving most changes. In 1966 the Senate will gain 26 new members, eight Democrats and the rest Republicans, while the Assembly adds 63 new members, 34 Republicans and 29 Democrats, amid a shift from the Democrats’ 1965 33-24 Senate and 88-62 Assembly margins.

Area Man Escapes In Viet Nam Air Crash
Saigon reports Lt. Harrington a 27 year old Bennington naval fighter pilot survived a crippled F87 crash into the South China Sea. Albatross crew rescued him as enemy junks swarmed the area with Air Force fighters strafing to keep them away. Harrington, who had bailed out after his plane was hit, landed amid the junk fleet and was rescued. He recently earned the Century Badge for 100 landings aboard his carrier. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Gaylord Harrington of East Road.
