The 33 nation African group overruled Congolese objections and moved to demand an urgent Security Council meeting on the Congo crisis in New York. The move came despite formal Congolese objections and sought immediate international action.
Washington reports the Johnson administration is likely to propose a one year extension of the 100 percent federally financed unemployment retraining program. Senator George D. Aiken says Congress will probably approve. The program has operated since 1962 with broad state coverage and federal funding totaling $345 million for more than 6,000 projects and 300,000 trainees.
Ambassador Maxwell D. Taylor met with Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Defense Secretary Robert McNamara to review U.S. Vietnam policy. The aircraft from VP2 at Whidbey Island was on an ice reconnaissance mission when it disappeared from Kodiak control. Wreckage located 200 feet below a hill crest. cause under investigation. Names withheld until next of kin notifications. Cape Newenham lies near the Bering Sea, about 450 miles southwest of Anchorage.
