The Paris bullion market reported a record turnover of 63.8 million francs as the great gold rush intensified. London dealers noted heavy buying decline while last week’s frantic surge to around $300 million in gold was tempered by a US and six Western European central bank pledge to keep the dollar price at $35 an ounce. The seven nations vowed to defend the dollar, with the Federal Reserve governors and central banks of Belgium, West Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Britain in attendance.
