Historic 1915 Hoosick Falls fire precedent recalled

Hoosick Falls recalls the 1915 blaze that gutted the Easton Thorpe Block and Lurie Store, wiping out a quarter of a million dollars in property. Fire crews from North Adams, North Bennington, Cambridge and Hoosick Falls responded. Troy was redirected after the center fire was controlled. The Thorpe Building walls survived due to steel girders, later repaired and still housing Thorpe Drug Store. The episode is cited to argue that lingering smoke smells may fade and that standing walls can be salvaged.
