Life starts publication of Khrushchev memoirs
Life magazine published the first excerpt of Khrushchev memoirs depicting Stalin as a ailing man living in fear of assassination. Khrushchev said Stalin would be tried and punished if alive, and cited his own rise to power with Stalin and his wife. Svetlana Alliluyeva questioned the memoirs' accuracy. The piece notes Khrushchev’s critique and the source ambiguity.
