Bennington residents at a seven minute town meeting authorized an Economic Development Administration grant of 779675 to build a new water filtration plant. A state grant of 440409 was also approved. Town Manager Louis C. Savelas said the plant will make Bennington the envy of the nation and will open in spring 1979 as the first U S filtration plant to dispose of sludge by freeze drying. One dissenting attendee questioned alum injection after entry to the plant.
President Sadat’s Cairo visit yielded mainly in principle understandings on security, Begin’s return, Palestinian participation, and Geneva talks.
