North and South Vietnam set 1976 national assembly elections

North and South Vietnam agreed to elect a joint national assembly in 1976 to end 21 years of division. The communique said elections would be in the first half of 1976, with one representative per 100,000 people. Leaders Truong Chinh and Pham Hung signed the accord, signaling rapid reunification after the Communist victory.

Pray murder trial to go to jury after seven days of testimony

In Addison County Superior Court Gary B. Pray 27 of Bennington faces a first degree murder verdict after seven days of testimony from 45 witnesses. Prosecutors say Pray was not insane at the time of the Garneau killing. the defense contends he met the legal insanity standard. Closing arguments are expected tomorrow as the jury of eight women and four men prepares to hear the case.

Blue Cross seeks 17.7 percent rate hike in Vermont

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Hampshire Vermont has asked the Vermont Banking and Insurance Department to approve a 17.7 percent rate increase for Vermont subscribers effective April 1, 1976. The move aims to generate about $3.4 million in new income to cover rising hospital costs, higher wages, construction programs, and malpractice premiums.

Bennington Students Vote On Futures Report And Parker

Bennington College students will vote on a six question ballot including no confidence in President Gail Parker and endorsement of a student led coordinating committee. Faculty already passed a no confidence resolution with one dissent. Ballots issued Friday must be returned by 1 pm Monday.

Vermont to begin a uniform traffic ticket schedule on December 1 1973 tightening penalties for most road violations while easing fines for riding animals. The horse rider fine drops to 15 dollars from 25 with inflation impacting other increases such as speeding fines rising to a flat 15 plus 2 dollars per extra mile and stricter penalties for counterfeit plates, uninspected cars, and disobedience to officers.
