Exposition Imposition: GBA Rejects Expo 67 Campaign
Vermont Development Department proposed Bennington join a $7,000 promotional drive to steer visitors to Expo 67 in Canada as the scenic route. Hiram Savage of the Greater Bennington Association cites two reasons for declining. First, Bennington already funds a $1,200 skier promotion funneling visitors to 12 ski areas. Second, Expo 67 traffic would come when tourism is at peak, risking crowded motels.

Attorneys for the University of Vermont filed a chancellor court answer to a bill by James B. Wilbur III and Martha Wilbur of Manchester seeking $3 million from the Wilbur Trust Fund. The heirs argue the fund’s enrollment cap has been violated since 1958, while UVM contends the claims are baseless, time barred, and previously adjudged. The fund has aided about 5,000 students since 1933 with grants around $475.
