Explosion in Winooski tenement linked to gas line
The state fire marshal’s office traced the blast to an open natural gas line in the basement of a Winooski tenement. Fire Marshal John L. Vergin said gas flowed to a second floor kitchen after the line was turned on. Earlier reports blamed a lit match by Amelia Perreault, 33, who escaped serious injury after the blast and was hospitalized in Burlington with burns.

Bypass talks focus on easterly route for Williamstown traffic
Planning Consultant Raymond Thomas told the Planning Board that two state DPW bypass proposals exist for Williamstown. The easterly route, with minor changes, best addresses the traffic problem, though other alternates are possible. A four lane limited access highway is needed from south to north of town as part of the federal highway program. The bypass would speed traffic on U S 7 and future plans include a north of turnpike east west four-lane divided road.
