Shah visit underscored police control amid anti shah protests
In Washington, the Shah of Iran met President Carter as police tightened security around Lafayette Square after clashes Tuesday near the White House. About 5,000 anti shah demonstrators shouted as the Shah arrived in a guarded motorcade. One block away, police prevented crowds at the Ellipse where 126 people were injured in a prior stick and teargas fight.
