New England governors back energy saving plan
Six New England governors approved a resolution urging a 6.5 mph speed limit and cuts in heat and electricity to save gasoline this winter. The plan, passed 5-1 with New Hampshire’s Meldrim Thomson dissenting, seeks 65-68 degree indoor temps, 55-60 when unused, a 5 percent voltage cut during 4 to 8 pm, and weekday curtailment of nonessential activities. The group also urged Congress to restore daylight saving time to save an hour daily.

North Bennington school cuts budget in tough times
North Bennington's Grand List reduction forces a $3,800 cut to an already tight budget. The board eyed $2,300 in potential savings while preserving a $396,420.36 plan approved last June. Adjustments target instruction salaries, instructional supplies, summer school, transportation, and non instructional equipment. State aid is down $51 with possible federal funds help. Fuel concerns prompted no planned shutdowns as temperatures eased.
