BTPA Calls for Legal Action In Report on Listing Methods
The Bennington Taxpayers Protective Association urged immediate legal action over alleged unfair listing methods in Bennington. At Mt Anthony Union High School, about 300 residents heard a booklet compare 1965 66 67 appraisals across business real estate personal property and homes. The group asks reforms including more listers election of a chair and annual public audits with full disclosure of all assessments and a possible article for town meeting.

Falls Boy Dies in Gun Accident
David Dorr age 12 died after a .22 caliber gun misfire at the Molyneux home in Hoosick Falls. Richard Molyneux, 15, reportedly loaded an empty shell then discharged the weapon while playing upstairs. Dorr was pronounced dead on arrival at Mary McClellan Hospital. Anthony Matera ruled the death accidental. He was a seventh grader at Hoosick Falls Central School and member of the junior band. He is survived by his parents and sister Mary K. Dorr. Funeral services planned for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Leo J Mahar Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Could Be Decisive Battle of War In Dak To Region
North Vietnam reinforced the Dak To area near Saigon in what could become the war’s most decisive battle. Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap is said to be personally directing the Red forces from Hanoi as clashes surge around Dak Ranh and Dak To, with American units including the 173rd Airborne Brigade under heavy fire and helicopter losses reported but casualty figures unclear.

Bennington Man Killed In Head-on Collision
In Vermont a weekend marked by five highway deaths included a triple fatality. A head-on crash on Route 9 near Brattleboro killed Jesse Dewey 30 of Bennington and Michael Covella 18 of Worcester Mass, with others injured. Police also reported a 75-year-old Alburg man struck walking on VT 2, a Brookfield tractor rollover death, and two hunter fatalities amid ongoing investigations.

A gang used thermal lances and oxygen fed torches to slice two foot thick steel doors and steal nearly 3 million dollars in cash jewels and securities from the London Cooperative Bank Society. Police say they entered early Sunday disabled alarms during a wedding reception cleanup and left with valuables while staff worked to tally losses.

Three GIs on Way Home From Viet Cong Prison
Three American sergeants freed by the Viet Cong arrived in Paris en route to New York escorted by antiwar activist Thomas Hayden. The men, traveling in tourist class on Pan American Flight 119, remained largely silent as immigration officials and U S Embassy staff watched.
