New England air pollution blamed on neighboring states
A report for the New England Regional Commission cites New York and New Jersey as major sources of airborne pollution affecting New England. The study by Charles River Associates says local industries vent much of their waste, and outlines costs and a three point plan for trash and pollution control including regional disposal districts and ocean disposal research. It estimates regional solid waste costs rising to 80 million by 1980 and 1.1 billion in municipal sewage treatment capital costs, with Massachusetts bearing much of the burden.
