Editorial notes grants under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 will fund local improvement projects and programs for the educationally deprived. Vermont will receive about 2.25 million, with Bennington about 14 thousand for the rural district and roughly twice that for the village district. The act aims at equal opportunities and supports the Great Society goals. President Johnson also signed the Higher Education Act of 1965 creating educational opportunity grants and a student work-study program alongside a National Teachers Corps.
The new Partner in Education program and related funds aim to boost opportunities for students in low income areas and support colleges in financial distress. Government says it will act as partner, not dictator, with local systems, emphasizing noninterference while expanding access and quality through federal funding and fellowships for teachers.

A state plan to deploy two car crushers drew interest as a potential crowd attraction and junk-car disposal solution.
The article argues that no substantial NATO breakthrough will emerge from Dr. Erhard's visit while Germany seeks reassurance about its status in Europe. A Vermont column mocks deer hunting season and its inhuman savagery while lampooning hunters excuses. The author jokes about poaching, venison devotion, and legislative fights over deer numbers, noting the season’s fleeting nature and the cultural quirks it reveals.
Karlis Lusis of Bennington argues that U S antiwar demonstrations are orchestrated by an international Communist conspiracy. He cites SDS May 2nd Movement and Progressive Labor as cooperators, condemns student protesters, praises veterans and asks readers to view protests as treasonous. He closes with a quotation and his name and address.
A Dorset letter argues for a ski area despite opposition, praising Vermont mountains and potential local benefits for a family and business. The writer urges zoning reform to preserve Dorset’s charm while accepting future growth and resident opportunities. A second letter criticizes Communist propaganda in Montpelier, urging alternatives for public discourse.
Peter Skinner of Lehigh University writes to oppose Dorset Associates Inc plans to build a ski area in Dorset Hollow. He argues the project would ruin scenic views, quiet roads, and local privacy, urging support for property control to keep the Hollow for residents.
