Old Military Road in Pownal Gets Historical Backing

In autumn 1970 Don Baumert found a Revolutionary War era belt buckle on Road No. 35 between Vermont Outing Club land and Mrs. Maude Mason's property, alongside horse shoes and coins. The buckle and search support local lore that Berkshires and Pownal men traveled this route to Bennington in 1777. the road is now officially named Old Military Road, joining Williams town’s White Oaks Road and tracing a path via Mason Hill toward Barber’s Pond.
