Alden shifts image as Vermont campaign stresses good ideas
Former Windsor County state senator and 1960s Young Americans for Freedom alumnus, now among six Republicans vying for Stafford’s seat, pitches flexible ideas from across the spectrum. He backs Vietnam withdrawal, cautious foreign aid, wage and price controls, a 10 percent tariff surcharge, and expanded Vermont offices with toll free lines to engage residents. He also champions special education funding, recounting his 1969 H 314 proposal, which died in committee for lack of urgency.
