Synod to Adjourn Without Formal Stand on Celibacy
Vatican sources say the international synod of Roman Catholic bishops will adjourn without issuing formal statements on priestly celibacy or world issues such as hunger and war. Delegates will submit motions to Pope Paul VI for action, as divisions and the time required to craft universal language argued against formal declarations. The five week session focused on priesthood and justice with a vote to continue celibacy and Pope approval needed on elderly ordinations.
