Bennington County Votes Swing to Democratic Winners

In Bennington County many Republication incumbents were defeated or reelected as Democratic candidates swept Vermont. Key results include Sargent B. Child losing to a Republican, while George J. Heaslip and Harriet Stone won for Republicans in Manchester and Sunderland. Norman Fair unseated Arthur Bissell in Winhall, and Arlington’s Marjorie Doyle ran unopposed for town representative. County totals show strong Democratic performance in governor and statewide offices, aided by party organization and a Labor Council election HQ.

Vermonters Sweep Democrats Win Big In State Offices

Vermont voters delivered a two to one win for incumbent Democrat Philip H. Hoff over Lt. Gov Ralph Foote. The upset reflected disenchantment with Goldwater and broad Democratic gains, including Rutland City Mayor John Daley as the first Democratic lieutenant governor to preside over the state senate in over a century.
