Old North Pownal Depot Burned In Halloween Fire
A Halloween morning blaze destroyed the Old Depot in North Pownal after 1:35 a.m. firefighting efforts by North Pownal, Pownal and Pownal Center departments. The fire, tied to a history of rail service and later industrial use, left machinery storage ruined and prompted police to probe both blazes, including a nearby century-old unoccupied house in Lime Kiln Hill. Deputy Ernest B. Wilcox remained at the scene until 4:30 a.m. to monitor hot spots as winds stayed light.
