Public Service Board rejects Vermont co op rate hike
The Vermont Public Service Board denied a 5.7 percent across the board rate increase for the Vermont Electric Cooperative. It approved a reduced 2.4 percent hike for about 6,570 members, raising $62,143 in extra revenues, while denying a 0 percent rise for 575 Derby Line area members and dropping a $10 minimum billing. The Derby Line users will pay the same rates as other coop members, and a five year plan to reach a $20 percent rate rise was proposed.

High court asked to hear imitation milk case anew
The Vermont Supreme Court is asked to rehear a case challenging a 1989 law that requires imitation dairy products to be licensed for sale. Vermont and Coffee Rich, Inc. seek to revisit points of law after a prior dismissal on a technicality.

Vermont Regional Community College Renamed to CCV
The Vermont Regional Community College Commission is officially renamed Community College of Vermont following a board vote at the Oct 19 meeting. Provost Dr. Robert S. Babcock said the old name was cumbersome and inaccurate as the commission no longer stands. CCV became Vermont’s fifth state college last Sept 1.
