Pruning carefully aids shrubs. overdoing it harms growth
Burlington warns that overzealous pruning can harm flowering shrubs. Dr. Norman Pellett of the University of Vermont urges selective pruning after flowering for early bloomers, thinning older stems, and avoiding top-heavy shearing for formal hedges. Evergreen and slower shrubs may be thinned or cut back every few years to spur new growth and more flowers.

Care labels aid homemakers in garment care under new law
Eileen M. Brogan explains that since July all garments above three dollars must carry permanent care labels with laundering instructions plus yard goods require sewable care labels. Labels help predict textile reactions, aid refunds if care was followed, though some labels are brief. American Apparel Manufacturers Association provided clarification, and a consumer care guide booklet is available from the Extension Service office.
