Vermont Bill Seeks Car Crusher and $10 Junked Auto Tax

Rep. Kenalene J. Collins proposes a $10 penalty tax on junked cars visible from public highways and a $150,000 state purchase to fund a portable crusher. The plan envisions a six man operation to crush 100 cars daily, with the contractor repaying costs from scrap earnings and removing junked autos statewide. The crusher would tour large junkyards, process cars into bundles for shipment, and aim to clear about 300,000 junked vehicles in about three years.
