A long procession of Bennington College girls in period costumes reenacts Dante's Inferno Purgatory and Paradise on the commons lawn to celebrate Dante's 700th birthday. Claude Fredericks, the literature teacher, stars as Virgil guiding students, who cross a muddy path from Hell to Purgatory. Food included fried chicken and potato salad in Purgatory before dessert in the Jennings garden.
