Mt Anthony Budget Backers Seek New Vote On MAUHS

Mt Anthony Union High School may hold a special meeting next week to act on petitions from Raymond C. Murray of the Bennington Taxpayers Protective Association demanding a revote on the 1.75 million dollar net MAUHS budget and related matters. Murray says 800 signatures accompany the 51 page petition.

County Planners Awarded $49,180 Federal Grant

The Dept of Housing and Urban Development approved a $49,180 planning grant for Bennington County to create a master plan across 13 towns. Funds will cover map work land use studies and analyses of population and economic conditions as announced by Vermont’s congressional delegation. The grant supports the regional planning study and related planning activities.

Santarcangelo seeks re election to Vermont Senate

Sen Salvatore Santarcangelo of Old Bennington announced his candidacy for re election to one of Bennington County two Vermont Senate seats. A veteran of two terms he cited expected turnover and the need for experienced lawmakers to guide Vermont through rapid progress in the coming decade. He emphasized keeping residents and industries in Vermont and preventing overdevelopment. Santarcangelo, 49, is a Bennington businessman and former village president with deep local ties and multiple civic affiliations. Photographers Barred From New York Senate Session

Albany N Y Television cameras were allowed but newspaper photographers were barred during a Thursday session on New York City school legislation. Senate Majority Leader Earl W Brydges imposed the limit after an Albany paper cropped a photo to spotlight Brydges and staff, omitting the speaker. Brydges aide said photographers may return Friday for further debate coverage.
